Rewalsar LakeEvery lake brings a new location for the visitors to ensure an interesting trip. Though there are a number of lakes in the state, let’s have an account of a few:
Rewalsar Lake
The Rewalsar Lake is Located in Mandi district. It is square in shape and is situated at an altitude of 1360m. The legend behind the lake states that the king of Zahor, Arshadhara ordered to burn saint Padamsambhava here. Later, the king visited the place himself and found out that a lakeKhajjiar Lake had appeared at the place. The Lake is famous for its floating island which is believed to house the spirit of Padamsambhava. A small zoo is also located by the lake.
Khajjiar Lake
The lake is 16 km from Dalhousie and 25 km from district Chamba. This one is a perennial lake that does not depend on rain water to fill it. It is rather fed by slim streams and has large glades of Khajjar around it. Together, the lake and the glade are held in high esteem by the Khajjang. The Kalatop Sanctuary surrounds this 1 km wide and 1.5 km long lake.
Parashar Lake
Parashar Lake is 30 – 40 km from Mandi town. This Lake is associated with famous Rishi Parashar and is situated on a cup-shaped valley. There is a temple at the side of Parashar Lakethe lake dedicated to Rishi Parashar. The temple is an architectural specimen and is worth a visit. Every year in the month of June, a fair attracts a whole lot of visitors to this lake.
Manimahesh Lake
Manimahesh Lake is situated in the district of Chamba. It is m around 32 km from Bharmaur at a height of 4080. The lake lies at the foothills of the Manimahesh Kailash which is considered to be the abode of Lord Shiva. The lake is believed to be protected by Lord Shiva. People also believe that the lake is also Goddess Kali. In the month of August or September a fair is organized here every year.Chandartal Lake
Chandartal Lake
The Chandartal Lake is situated in Lahaul and Spiti district. Exactly, it is around 6 km from the Kunzam Pass that joins Lahaul and Spiti. It lies at an altitude of 4300 m. It is believed to be the place from where Yudhishtra, the eldest of Pandava brothers, began his journey to heavens in his mortal form along with Lord Indra.
